Join us to discuss a few thought-provoking titles about the interconnected relationship we have with our shared home, planet Earth. This group will span the months of February, March, and April leading up to the globally recognized Earth Day on April 22. We will discuss three works of nonfiction. Join us for as many sessions you’d like!
Our March title is A Wing and a Prayer: The Race to Save Our Vanishing Birds by Anders Gyllenhaal. Nearly three billion birds in North America have vanished over the past fifty years. No species has been spared, from the most delicate jeweled hummingbirds to scrappy black crows, from a rainbow of warblers to common birds such as owls and sparrows. Veteran journalists Anders and Beverly Gyllenhaal recently traveled more than 25,000 miles across the Americas, chronicling costly experiments, contentious politics, and new technologies to save our beloved birds from the brink of extinction. Through this compelling drama, A Wing and a Prayer offers hope and an urgent call to action: birds are dying at an unprecedented pace, but there is still time to change course, if we act quickly.
Here are the selections for each month:
February Title: The Carbon Footprint of Everything by Mike Berners-Lee (2022)
March Title: A Wing and a Prayer: The Race to Save Our Vanishing Birds by Anders Gyllenhaal (2023)
April Title: Paper Valley: The Fight for the Fox River Cleanup (Great Lakes Book Series) by David Allen (2023)
Please note: Print copies of each title are available at the Library's Circulation Desk one month in advance of each discussion.
