Event Details
Join us to discuss a few thought-provoking titles about the interconnected relationship we have with our shared home, planet Earth. This group will span the months of February, March, and April leading up to the globally recognized Earth Day on April 22. We will discuss three works of nonfiction. Join us for as many sessions as you’d like!
Our April title is Under a White Sky: The Nature of the Future by Elizabeth Kolbert. So pervasive are human impacts on the planet that it's said we live in a new geological epoch: the Anthropocene. Kolbert takes a hard look at the new world we are creating. She meets scientists who are trying to preserve the world's rarest fish, visits a lava field in Iceland, an aquarium in Australia, and a lab at Harvard. The Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Sixth Extinction returns to humanity's transformative impact on the environment, now asking: After doing so much damage, can we change nature, this time to save it?
Here are the selections for each month:
- February Title: The Great Displacement: Climate Change and the Next American Migration by Jake Bittle (2023)
- March Title: Not Too Late: Changing the Climate Story from Despair to Possibility by Rebecca Solnit, et. al (2023)
- April Title: Under a White Sky: The Nature of the Future by Elizabeth Kolbert (2023)
Print copies of each title are available at the Library's Circulation Desk one month in advance of each discussion. Under a White Sky is also available as an audiobook (cd format).
