Event Details

A total eclipse will appear in the sky on Monday, April 8, 2024. Although the Chicago area is not in the path of totality, between 12:51pm-3:22pm we will experience a near-complete solar eclipse.

Frankfort Public Library District cardholders can register for up to two free pairs of solar-viewing glasses (maximum of two glasses per family/household). Supplies are limited.

Please note:

  • Registration is limited to Frankfort Public Library District cardholders and required to reserve solar-viewing glasses.
  • Maximum of 2 glasses per family/household. Please click the *add another* button to register another person in your household for the 2nd pair.
  • Glasses can be picked up starting April 1, 2024 and must be picked up by 5pm on Sunday, April 7.

Solar-viewing glasses have been made available courtesy of the Space Science Institute and the Solar Eclipse Activities for Libraries program.

Safety First!

Never look directly at the Sun, eclipsed or otherwise, without proper protective eyewear. The Sun’s radiation can burn your eye's retinas and cause permanent damage or even blindness.

To safely watch a solar eclipse, wear protective eclipse glasses or project an image of the eclipsed Sun using a pinhole projector.
