Event Details
Join an experienced naturalist from the Forest Preserve District of Will County who will teach you what you need to know to prepare yourself for any disaster, whether it's a natural catastrophe or a zombie apocalypse. With our hands-on program, learn and practice skills like primitive fire-starting, safe water collection, emergency signaling, using household items to make improvised tools, and more.
This program is offsite; we will meet at the Hickory Creek Preserve LaPorte Road Access drive at the first parking lot pavilion (Shagbark pavilion shelter).
Please note, there are a few household items you will need to bring for this program:
- Old towel, sheet, or adult size shirt or some kind of cloth that can be cut up
- Panty hose or sock
Cancellation Policy: If you are signed up for an event you cannot attend, please call the Adult Services Desk at 815-534-6173 at least 24 hours before the event. This will allow us to contact other interested patrons on the waitlist. Given the current popularity of our programs, patrons who do not cancel their registration more than 24 hours in advance will be considered No Shows. If a patron is considered a No Show for three events, they may be unable to register for future events, and will instead be placed on the waitlist.
