Our May discussion features Amanda Peter's The Berry Pickers. In July 1962. a Mi'kmaq family from Nova Scotia arrives in Maine to pick blueberries for the summer. Weeks later, four-year-old Ruthie, the family's youngest child, vanishes. Told in alternating, first-person chapters from Joe, Ruthie's older brother, and a narrator called Norma, the novel follows the painful reverberations of Ruthie's disappearance across five decades.
