Join us to discuss Prisoners of the Castle: An Epic Story of Survival and Escape from Colditz, The Nazi’s Fortress Prison by Ben MacIntyre
In eastern Germany, roughly halfway between the cities of Dresden and Leipzig, sits the small village of Colditz and Colditz Castle, a medieval fortress dating back to 1043 AD. During the second World War, the castle became a Nazi POW camp reserved for captured Allied soldiers deemed “problematic,” often because they had previously made attempts to escape. What followed was a battle of wits, creativity, and engineering as prisoners concocted various ways to free themselves from Colditz and their captors worked equally hard to stay one step ahead and prevent any breakouts.
Copies of the book will be available at the Circulation Desk one month before the meeting date. eBook copies are available from Libby and Axis 360, and eAudiobook copies are available from Libby with your FPLD library card.
