Join us to discuss Paradise Falls: The True Story of an Environmental Catastrophe by Keith O’Brien

Before Erin Brokovich, there was Lois Gibbs and Luella Kenny. In the mid-1970s, residents of the idyllic community of Love Canal in Niagara Falls, NY began to take note of noxious odors, pools of mystery liquids, and most alarmingly, unexplained illnesses plaguing their children. Investigation revealed that their neighborhood had been built over a massive disposal site for nearby Hooker Chemical and the buried chemicals were now leaching up through the soil. Led by Gibbs and Kenny, a group of mothers battled Hooker and local officials for the wellbeing of their families and community, taking their fight all the way to the EPA and the White House.

Copies of the book will be available at the Circulation Desk one month before the meeting date.
