Join us for a new book group designed to go along with the 2023 Read Widely: Around the World adult reading challenge! This month, we will read and discuss Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson
After the death of Eleanor Bennet, her children, estranged siblings Byron and Benny, receive an unusual bequest. Eleanor has left them one of her famous black cakes in the freezer and a recorded message. The message contains the story of a young woman named Covey and her tumultuous journey from the Caribbean to England and then to southern California. As they listen, Byron and Benny will be led to reexamine everything that they thought they knew about their mother, their family, and themselves.
